As a Technical Recruiter on Carlton National Resources’ Life Sciences team, Nicholas approaches each day with a plan, a competitive mindset, and a focus on building meaningful relationships.
Starting Each Day With a Plan
Nicholas starts each morning by prioritizing what matters most.
“I usually start my day at Carlton by working hot to cold,” he explains. “I try to plan out the next day before I leave the office.”
Whether it is pending offers, interviews, or consultant submittals, he believes preparation is key to staying organized and delivering results.
He also focuses closely on supporting the consultants he works with.
“I make sure that I am taking care of any consultants that I am working with to make sure I am covering their needs.”
That combination of preparation and consultant support helps set the tone for his day.
Helping the Team Win
What Nicholas enjoys most about Carlton is the opportunity to contribute to the success of both his team and the consultants he supports.
“I enjoy helping the team win. I like seeing other people win,” he shares.
He especially enjoys delivering positive news to candidates after a successful hiring process.
“Whether it is a tough hiring process or easy, there is no better feeling in the world than delivering an offer to a consultant you have been working with.”
Nicholas also credits Carlton’s culture and leadership for making the company a great place to work.
“I also like the company culture. Fred and Jerry have been great to work for.”
Building Strong Team Relationships
One of Nicholas’ most memorable experiences came during Founder’s Club 2025 in the Bahamas.
There, he finally had the opportunity to meet fellow team member Dave Rooney in person.
“We’ve worked together for a while, but Bahamas was the first time we met face to face,” he says. “Dave and I make a great team, so it was good to meet someone in person that you talk on the phone with every day multiple times.”
That experience reinforced the importance of collaboration and strong internal relationships.
Navigating Challenges Through Teamwork
Like many recruiters, Nicholas understands that challenges are part of the job.
His approach is rooted in experience, perspective, and teamwork.
“Recruiting brings its own challenges for sure, but I try to stay focused on what I can control and look to my team for support,” he explains. “We’ve all had different experiences and can provide new outlooks to situations.”
Years of recruiting experience have helped him navigate many obstacles. Still, Nicholas values having a team he can rely on when new challenges arise.
Life Outside the Office
Outside of work, Nicholas enjoys spending as much time outdoors as possible.
During the winter, he often skis in Vermont with friends and family.
“I usually ski at least 20 times during the winter,” he says. “There is nothing better than being on top of the mountain when it’s dumping snow in Vermont.”
In the summer, his focus shifts to golf, which he enjoys several times each week.
He also shares his home with two dogs, though he jokes that there is “nothing interesting or fun” about him.
Staying Motivated Through Growth
Nicholas stays motivated by focusing on growth and maintaining the right mindset.
“I try to tell myself to be 1% better every day,” he says.
He recognizes that staffing comes with both highs and lows. However, he believes consistency and perseverance separate top performers.
“Sometimes you just have to understand the low times don’t last long if you continue to put your head down and focus on the next task at hand.”
Nicholas also draws motivation from the people around him.
“A lot of the team members on the Life Sciences team rely on me to be my best,” he explains. “When we work together as a team and everyone puts the same effort in, we reach peak performance.”
Celebrating Growth and Milestones
One accomplishment Nicholas is especially proud of is earning a spot in Founder’s Club 2025.
While the trip itself was memorable, he sees it as part of a larger journey.
“This year I should double my sales from last year, so it’s exciting to see the growth and continued upward direction during my Carlton career.”
That progress reflects the consistency and competitive mindset he brings to Life Sciences recruiting.
Advice for New Recruiters
For those just starting at Carlton, Nicholas emphasizes the importance of learning from others and staying consistent.
“Ask questions and learn from the senior colleagues,” he advises. “Get 1% better every day. Get great at the things you can control and you will see the results.”
He also stresses the value of relationship building.
“The best recruiters in the market are consistent. They are consistently networking, getting referrals, and building relationships with their consultants.”
His advice is to focus on quality over quantity and build genuine relationships with the people you work with.
“Candidates will hear the passion in your voice when you talk to them and they will appreciate you as a person.”
Looking Ahead
Nicholas is focused on maintaining momentum and continuing to grow alongside his team.
“I just want to win,” he says. “I am super competitive and there is nothing I love more than winning and bringing energy to the office.”
Whether he is helping clients, supporting consultants, or strengthening relationships, his goal remains the same: continue striving to become one of the best recruiters in the industry.
Through preparation, consistency, and a team-first mentality, Nicholas continues to make a meaningful impact within the Life Sciences division and across Carlton National Resources.
